One of the standout features of our preschool is the strong parent community. As a cooperative, we invite parents to take an active role in their child's education. At Peter Pan, one parent works one day a week as a parent/teacher at Peter Pan in a 8:30-12:30 am Work Day. This hands-on experience not only allows you to gain insight into your child’s preschool journey but also helps you forge meaningful relationships with your child’s friends and other parents of similar-aged children.
We understand that not every parent has teaching experience, which is why we provide comprehensive training and education to ensure that you feel confident and equipped in your role. Our goal is to support new families every step of the way, offering strategies and support both at school and at home.
Parent/teachers observe and interact with children of various ages, enhancing their ability to nurture their own children effectively. The daily opportunities for parent education, coupled with monthly meetings, create a continuous learning environment where parents can share experiences, challenges, and strategies.
Ultimately, the co-op model reinforces that effective parenting is a shared responsibility, enriched by education and collaboration. By prioritizing parent education, we not only enhance our own parenting skills but also strengthen the entire community, creating a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
Each family contributes to the preschool's success by participating in monthly meetings, fulfilling weekly responsibilities, and engaging in committee work and fundraising efforts. While the commitment is significant, the rewards are immeasurable. Your involvement not only enriches your child’s preschool experience but also helps shape the community we cherish. Together, we create a nurturing environment where children thrive, friendships blossom, and families grow.

Parent Responsibilities
The co-op model keeps our tuition costs low and allows parents to be deeply involved in their child’s preschool experience.
It is, however, a large commitment that requires a significant investment of time and energy from each member family.

Workday
One parent per family works one day each week as a parent-teacher at the school from 8:30am to 12:30pm, or until clean up is complete. Your workday will be the same day every week.
|
Emergency Substitute Days
In order to cover for emergency absences, each family is required to sign up for eight (8) “e-sub” (emergency substitute) days per school year. On that day, you are only required to be available for an emergency call-in until 9:15 am.
|
Weekly Job
Each family is assigned a job at the school that requires about an hour of work each week. Most weekly jobs can be done any time the school is not in session.
|
Committees
Each family must serve on one of five committees at the school: fundraising, curriculum, maintenance, membership or finance. Committee work requires about 2 hours of work per month.
|
|
Work Parties
Maintenance at the school is the responsibility of the membership. To keep the school in good repair, work parties are scheduled on several weekends throughout the school year, and each family is required to complete 10 maintenance hours per year.
|
Membership Meetings
Membership meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Families are required to attend 9 of the 11 monthly membership meetings that include parent education and co-op business. We are committed to bringing awareness to topics such as race, gender, ages and stages, temperament, and positive discipline.
|
Fundraisers
Peter Pan holds a number of fundraisers throughout the year, including Holiday Auction Party, Raffle, and Friends + Family Donation Drive. Each family must participate in all fundraisers throughout the year.

Why choose our co-op?
- Affordable Tuition. By sharing responsibilities, we keep costs down, making quality education accessible for all families. Our co-op model keeps tuition low by asking members to actively participating in the up-keep and evolution of Peter Pan.
- Parent Education. As a parent-teacher, you’ll have the unique opportunity to witness your child’s growth firsthand, fostering a deeper connection to their learning. You’ll learn through monthly parent education how to support your child as they develop and grow.
- Lasting Relationships. Working alongside other families allows you to form strong bonds with fellow parents and create a supportive community for your child.
- Flexible Commitment. With one designated workday each week from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, you can plan your schedule around this enriching experience. Plus, you’ll leave with a sense of accomplishment after contributing to your child’s classroom!
